Vaughn Thomas - Lead Guitar

My professional career in music began around November of 1988 when I began playing lead guitar and singing with The Clyde Robertson Band in Nashville, Tennessee.  We traveled extensively throughout the United States entertaining at clubs, concerts and fairs.  We served as opening bands for such recording artists as Willie Nelson, LeRoy Parnell, Restless Heart, and Marty Stuart.

In June of 1993, I was lead guitarist for Shenandoah Jubilee/Pony Express in the Stanley, Virginia area.  We performed live contemporary and traditional country music shows at resorts and tourist attractions.  We traveled the East Coast playing a variety of music styles at concerts, fairs and clubs.

In February of 1992, I began as lead guitarist with The Statler Brothers Band in Staunton, Virginia.  We toured year round appearing at concerts, fairs and theaters.  We made appearances on TNN's Nashville Now, Prime Time Country and Music City Tonight.

September 2002, I started managing a country/southern rock/blues band known as Hotwired (in the Fishersville area).  I played lead guitar and sang background vocals.  For the most part, we performed at private clubs, weddings and nightclubs.

December 2006, City Limits took off.  I was on board singing lead and background vocals and playing lead guitar.  I am a member of the American Federation of Musicians and Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI).

Dave Buell - Bass

I began playing bass in 1962 by listening to songs on radio station WANV-AM in Waynesboro. While a teenager I was with the band The Townsmen playing venues such as The Rafters, Crafton's Park & lots of UVA frat parties. I moved to Atlanta GA in 1970 with Home Juice Company until 1977 when I returned to my native home Waynesboro. I then began playing with various bands of the time, Mason Roller Band, Contraband, & Witness before finding myself on the road with Clyde around 1992. After Clyde's move to Nashville, I stayed local & regained ground with  Witness,  Flashback, Crystal Armentrout, Keith Bryant & Ironhorse & The Jimmy - O Band as well as subbing with bands when a bassman was needed.

I reside in Swoope with my wife, 2 dogs & a multitude of cats. My favorite line is from a song from the Old Dogs cd of Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson "old age & treachery most times outdoes youth & skill."

Sandford Sprouse - Rhythm Guitar

My name is Sandford Sprouse.  My parents are Carl & Dorothy Sprouse of Augusta County.  I have two brothers and three sisters.  I have been married for 26 years to my lovely wife, Teresa.  We have two sons, Joey and Daniel.

I have been playing music since I was six years old.  My dad would wake me up about 4:00 a.m. to play guitar with him.  After that, I would play in church with my mom, brothers, and sisters - we still play in church to this day.  I joined my first band, Restless, in the late 1980s playing rhythm guitar and singing both lead and backup vocals for about two years.  Next I joined Bad Habit and that is when my son, Daniel, took interest in playing drums.  After playing music with Bad Habit for about four years, Daniel and I joined the band High & Dry and won "Best Band" at the Eastside East Coast Championships.  Next, Daniel and I joined the New West Band for several years.

Throughout the years, I have enjoyed playing in a lot of the local clubs and having the chance to meet lots of great people:  both fans and club owners.  I took a break from playing for a year or so, but got the itch to get back into the game and start fresh.  After talking with Clyde Robertson and my son, City Limits took off.  We have some wonderful, professional musicians in this group.

I would like to thank my family for all their support and God for giving me the talent to do what I truly enjoy!

Daniel Sprouse - Drums

I am twenty-two years old; my parents are Sandford and Teresa Sprouse.  I have a brother, Joey, and a beautiful wife, Eliza.  Music has always been a major part of my life.  I have been playing drums for 14 years.  My dad inspired me to play the drums by taking me to band practice with him or to a gig so I could hear the drummer play.

The bands that I've played with include:  Bad Habit, The High & Dry Band and the New West Band - these are Country and Southern Rock music bands.  I have also played rock (both modern and classic) with 4-Play and Forthrite.

I can't imagine not being a part of music.  I look forward to having fun and enjoying a great time with my dad, with Eliza my new wife and drum-tech, and the rest of the guys in the City Limits Band.

(Marion) Clyde Robertson – Lead Vocals

I was born Marion Clyde Robertson on September 5th, 1965, in Fredericksburg, Virginia to Marion Stone and Betty Louise Robertson.  I was the youngest of seven children.

I started out, like many in the Valley, singing in church with the family.  At the tender age of nine, I made my singing debut at Marino's Lunch with my older sister, Julie (who was ten); my father's band provided the music.

I always loved to sing – at 16, I joined The High and Dry Show with Julie, and worked with the show for about three years.  We won the East Coast Country Music Championship held at Kings Dominion in 1983.

I wanted more.  I went on the road with my own band in 1986 and traveled the States for eight years.  As a solo artist, I worked regularly in the clubs and in the later years with other acts such as Willie Nelson, John Conlee, Earl Thomas Conley, Loretta Lynn, Steve Wariner, Bill Anderson, etc. (the list could go on and on).

I was persuaded to make the move to Nashville by my friend, Marty Stuart, in 1994.  I worked the Nashville circuit for about two years.  In 1996, I decided I'd had enough of the “industry” and focused on real estate.  In 2001, I separated from my wife of 17 years; I stayed on in Nashville for three more years.  In 2004, I headed back home to Virginia.

Since being back home, I've come to realize that I have a deep love and need for music and singing.  So, I've teamed up with my new Virginia family to start The City Limits Band and I look forward to making great music.  Even though the name has “Limits,” the talent in this band is unlimited.
